Amy was a three-time Iowa state champion in the shot put during her high school career at Treynor, Iowa. She was a member of the 1986 Iowa High School All-State Track Team. Amy also participated in volleyball and basketball in high school. She continued throwing in college and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and New Mexico State University (NMSU). Amy lettered in the shot put two indoor/outdoor seasons at UNL, placing 5^th at each Big 8 Championship meet. Amy also lettered two years at New Mexico State University. She was the Big West Conference shot put champion in 1991 and 1992. She remains second on the NMSU outdoor shot put record list. Amy was a member of the Academic All-Big West Conference Team and was the New Mexico State University All Sport Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1992.

Amy is married to Dave Brown, former UNL thrower. They have two children, Shelby and Tyler. Amy began coaching with the Lincoln Youth Track Club in 2008. 

I have been involved in track and field since seventh-grade. I knew nothing about the sport and the Treynor Jr. High school track coach encouraged me to give it a try. I have been involved with track and field ever since.  

What I enjoy the most about coaching is seeing each athlete’s development and growth. It is rewarding to see athletes achieve personal bests.
