Dave has been a throwing coach with the Lincoln Youth Track Club since 2008 and has been involved with track and field for many years. In 1983 he was the Class C Nebraska state high school champion in the shot put. Dave continued his career throwing the shot and discus at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) earning Division I All American honors and finished 4^th in the nation in the shot put at the 1988 NCAA National Championship meet. Some of the awards he earned at UNL include Most Improved Field Athlete (1987), Outstanding Performer (1988), Most Valuable Team Performer (1988), and Academic All-Big Eight Conference (1988). Dave finished his career at Nebraska with the 2^nd best shot put indoors in school history and is currently still ranked on their All-Time Top Ten list. He served as a volunteer throwing coach at New Mexico State University while attending graduate school and is currently the throwing coach at Lincoln East High School.

I have been around the sport of track and field my entire life. My father was a high school track coach and that gave me the opportunity to hang around track practices and meets at a very young age. I started competing in the throwing events for my middle school track team and continued in high school with my dad as my throwing coach.

What I enjoy most about coaching is helping athletes push their performances to the next level. That process typically involves trying new things to explore what will work and what doesn’t work. Every athlete has an entirely different skillset and there is no one way to get the best results out of each of them. This is the challenge I love and it is very enriching to be a part of their successful development.
