Carol Moravec began her teaching and track coaching careers at Omaha North High School in 1991. She has been at Lincoln Southeast (LSE) High School for the past twenty-seven years where she currently teaches Human Anatomy and Physiology as well as Differentiated Biology.
Carol is a certified Level II USA Track & Field coach and has been since 1994. At LSE, she also has been the sprints coach for both the boys and the girls track teams since 1994. Additionally, from 2000 to 2003 she served as Southeast’s Head Girls Track Coach and led the team to four consecutive Class A State Championship Titles during each of those four years. Throughout her coaching career has had the opportunity to coach numerous state champions in the sprints and relays.
Carol was inducted into Concordia University Seward’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996 and into the NAIA National Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. During her four years at Concordia, she set school records in 13 different track and field events, won eight individual NAIA National Championships, and set two NAIA National Outdoor Meet records in the 100m and 200m dashes. She also earned All-American honors 22 times and was named the Lincoln Journal Star 1990 Female College Athlete of the Year. She became the first female in the history of NAIA to win the 100m four consecutive years.
In 2003-2004 Carol was named the Ralph Beecher coach of the year. In 2000-2001 she was honored as the Nebraska Coaches Association Girls Track Coach of the year. And in 2003 she was the Lincoln Journal Star High School Girls Coach of the Year.
Carol is a native of Jamaica. She is married to Chris Moravec. They have two children, Vincent and Nerissa. Carol began coaching with the Lincoln Youth Track Club in 2017.
Carol has stated: “As a native of Jamaica, track was a big deal for us. I was discovered in PE class as an 8th grader where I had jumped seventeen feet in the long jump and ran 13.00 second in the 100m dash on a grassy field. That was the beginning of my quest to earn a scholarship to a school in the United States. I travel to Penn Relays twice, and from then on I knew that my path to a college degree was to earn a scholarship to run track and field.”
“I really enjoy working with the youth track athletes. It is such a change from coaching high school athletes. They are eager to learn and they laugh at all my jokes. They think I am hilarious! You also have to get a lot more creative with explaining and demonstrating your drills. I am passionate about track and field and enjoy sharing my enthusiasm with my athletes!”
